Women and men who have weak abdominal muscles, excess skin or abdominal fat can benefit from a tummy tuck.

To tighten the abdominal wall, the loose underlying tissue and muscle are brought together with sutures. The effect is similar to an internal girdle.

An incision usually is made just within or above the pubic area and around the navel. Skin in the shaded area is separated from your abdominal wall.

Abdominal skin in drawn downward, and the excess is removed. A small opening is made for your navel so that its position remains unchanged.

Abdominoplasty incisions can usually be designed so that scars will be hidden within underwear and bathing suits.

This patient's incision can be covered by a high-cut bikini.

Men may also be good candidates for a tummy tuck. This patient underwent a minimal incision technique to tighten the abdominal muscles.
