The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of the procedure and skin type. Side effects, if any, are usually minor. There may be some redness and swelling, usually lasting no longer than 1-2 hours. In some cases effects may be seen for 2-4 days after treatment.
If blisters form, they are usually not severe and heal without scarring. Inappropriate management of blisters during the healing stage will increase the chance of scarring.
Darker skin types are often more susceptible to pigment changes due to effects of lights, including sunlight and/or any IPL treatment. Pigmentation as a result of IPL treatment usually resolves within 3-12 months.
A sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher must be worn on treated areas.
