Fine Lines & Wrinkles

    >

Overview

Women are not the only ones concerned with the tell-tale signs of aging. Many of our male clients express concern with the lines and wrinkles they see developing around their eyes and mouth. Facial lines and wrinkles are the earliest signs of skin aging and are caused primarily from sun damage due to sun exposure and exposure to environmental toxins such as tobacco smoke.

Fine lines and wrinkles are classified in four different groups:

  • Mild (few wrinkles)
  • Moderate (early wrinkling, sallow complexion)
  • Advanced (persistent wrinkling, skin discoloration with broken blood vessels and sun damage)
  • Severe (severe wrinkling and furrows, sun damage)

There is often a degree of asymmetry to the lines, as people tend to smile or frown more on one side than the other, or consistently sleep on the right or the left cheek. Fine lines and wrinkles arise because of irregular thickening of the dermis and because of a decrease in the amount of water held by the epidermis.
