Microdermabrasion
Introduction to Microdermabrasion
Fine lines getting you down? Looking for a solution to dull, aging skin that doesn’t include painful procedures or recovery time? Your skin is the largest organ of your body and has the most contact with the outside world. Therefore as you age the visible signs of that contact start to show in the form of age spots, fine lines, crow’s feet or acne scars. Most of these defects are imbedded in the outermost layer of skin called the stratum corneum, the very top layer of the epidermis. It acts as a protective layer, helping to seal in moisture and seal out all but the smallest molecules from getting through. Consequently, that protection also slows the rate at which the skin creates new cells.
The microdermabrasion machine combines gentle abrasion, created by aluminum oxide crystals targeted at the skin, with suction, which collects the removed particles. This removes sun damaged and dead skin cells leaving your skin soft, smooth, and revitalized. After the procedure a soothing toner, a moisturizer, and a sun block are applied to your skin to re-hydrate and protect you.
Alternatively, we use a particle free system that accomplishes the same goals without the use of aluminum oxide crystals. Microdermabrasion is a safe and painless alternative to laser resurfacing and chemical peels and requires no recovery time. The process is repeated several times over a few weeks. New healthy skin cells move to the surface creating healthier, younger looking skin.
Unlike dermabrasion, laser resurfacing or chemical peels, microdermabrasion is safe for men and women of all skin conditions and colors. The best candidate for microdermabrasion is one who wishes to improve the appearance of the skin and is willing to take an active role in protecting and maintaining the results. Microdermabrasion improves the overall appearance and tone of your skin; collagen production and circulation are improved; and the skin surface is smoother and healthier.
