Immediately after eyelid surgery you may experience any of the following:
- Blurred Vision - the ointment that may have been applied to lubricate and protect your eyes causes this. Your vision will clear up soon
- Tightness around the eyes - this is due to the swelling around your eyes. It will diminish as the swelling goes down. Cold compresses will help reduce the swelling and bruising
- Discomfort - it is normal to experience discomfort after any surgery, your doctor will be prescribing medication to control it
- Bruising and swelling around the eyes will reach its peak within the first few days after eyelid surgery and then begin to fade
It is extremely important to place ice packs on your eyelids and forehead during the first 24-48 hours after eyelid surgery. During that time you should avoid stooping or straining, and it is best if your head can be elevated. You can shampoo and shower within the first 24 hours. Vision is not significantly impaired during this time. Most patients find the operation from eyelid surgery to be less of a discomfort than anticipated.
