It is important to realize that the amount of time it takes for recovery varies greatly among individuals. The day after surgery you will need to move around a bit to promote blood circulation. In many instance you may return to work in just a few days and return to your normal activities, such as exercise, within one to two weeks. The timing of your recovery depends greatly on the extent of your surgery.
You will also be fitted for a compression garment to help reduce swelling and bruising. The length of time for wearing this garment will be discussed with your surgeon during your post-operative visit. Most swelling will subside within a week or two of surgery while bruising can last three weeks or longer. You may also experience numbness in some areas and it may take several weeks for feeling to return. If stitches need to be removed this will be done within ten days of surgery.
