Genital Surgery
(Labiaplasty)
Late Recovery Period After Labioplasty Surgery
Discomfort from Labiaplasty surgery will diminish steadily after the first postoperative week. In the second week the patient should be able to wear normal clothing with perhaps only a panty liner and ointment. Standing and walking should not be problematic in this period but patients are advised not to perform vigorous physical activity such as running, weightlifting, or bicycle riding. Gentle washing with soap and water and gentle drying in the suture line area is encouraged.
Because full healing without complication is desired for all patients, vigorous physical activity such as bicycle riding, horseback riding or sexual activity should be avoided for 5-6 weeks after the surgery. It is recommended that an examination by your surgeon be performed in this timeframe prior to engaging in any of these activities to ensure full healing has taken place.
